FINALS: Powerade Tigers 1 - 3 Talk N Text Tropang Texters

Barangay Ginebra labored its way into the quarterfinal round after snapping Petron Blaze’s six-game winning streak with a pulsating 91-89 win in the 2011-12 PBA Philippine Cup Friday night at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Mark Caguioa rebounded from poor performances in the past three games with 22 points and a crucial assist to Willy Wilson in the closing seconds for the go-ahead basket.

The Kings then forced Danny Ildefonso into a desperation heave that failed to hit the mark, as the Boosters fell to second place in the standings with a 9-4 win-loss slate.

POWERADE’s young stars are steadily rising, but Gary David remains very much the Tigers’ main go-to guy at the present.

David stressed this anew by playing big roles in Powerade’s back-to-back wins that stoked its drive to the playoffs while earning for himself the Accel-PBAPress Corps Player of the Week honors for the period Nov. 21 to 27.

It is the second such citation in the conference for the 33-year-old, who was also honored for the period Oct. 24-30, and coach Bo Perasol said it is only fitting.

Before B-MEG Head Coach Tim Cone officially started practice, Assistant Coach Johnny Abarrientos and point guard Mark Barroca were already in deep training. Johnny talked. Mark listened. Lesson number 76: How to steal the ball from a big man.

"Coach papano ang pag-timing ng sundot," Mark asked Johnny. "Papano ba ang timing 'pag gusto mo to smother a big man na hindi ka makikita?"

Talk ‘N Text center Ali Peek has been cleared by doctors to come back to action less than three weeks after being shot in the neck.

Television personality and former PBA courtside reporter Cesca Litton broke the news on Twitter late Thursday evening, sharing a text message from the hulking PBA veteran: “I’m fully recovered, Cesca. I can play.”

Peek himself confirmed the news in a Twitter message to another friend. “I’m doing great and I just got clearance from the doctor,” he wrote. “I’m fully recovered! God is great!”

Games Wednesday (Smart-Araneta Coliseum)

5:15 p.m. — Ginebra vs Alaska

7:30 p.m. — Barako vs Meralco

MANILA, Philippines — The latest addition in the rosters of B-Meg and Barangay Ginebra after a three-team trade failed to create an impact when the Llamados and the Kings clashed in the PBA Philippine Cup Sunday night at the packed Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Third year forward Rico Maierhofer played 11 minutes but only had two points, two rebounds in his Ginebra debut, while veteran center Yancy de Ocampo of B-Meg was scoreless in only four minutes of action with two boards and one assist.

Published on October 11, 2010Like all the great PBA point guards before him, Alaska playmaker LA Tenorio has put a giant of a goal to aim for right before him. And the former Ateneo Blue Eagle star has chosen the one against whom all others who play the No. 1 spot are measured – the ‘Flying A’ Johnny Abarrientos. “Yon ang gusto kong posisyon pag dating ng panahon, yung posisyon ni Johnny,” said Tenorio after watching in awe as Alaska, with team owner Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, team manager Joaqui Trillo and coach Tim Cone present, retired Abarrientos’ No. 14 jersey during the Aces’ 25th anniversary celebration late last month.

Published on September 28, 2010Now a few PBA fans looked baffled when the sixth overall pick was named in the 2009 PBA Draft last August 2.  Who is Mike Burtscher?  There were hardly any surprises in the Draft until his name was called.  Even the ones who knew of him were shocked to hear the Alaska Aces pick him over so many other up and coming ballers.

But Burtscher is out to prove his worth and live out his journey that is quickly taking him to the top, but has dragged him deep into the dark valleys.

This is Mike’s story -- a story which will make you understand why he’s got a lot of fight in him.  A story that will hopefully inspire you.

MAKING the most when the opportunity presents itself is nothing new to Joshua Urbiztondo.

That is why it came as no surprise when he came up with a breakout game for Sta. Lucia Realty last Friday and bagged what is projected to be his first KFC/Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week honors for the limited period Oct. 26 to 30.
